Held on Sunday The 20th of October, and organised by Michael
Daly, this comp was the second to be held at the Fairfield Leisure Center,
in Sydney’s outer west.

The day started off on a wet note with rain till about 10:30. Far from
dampening enthusiasm all this did was to centre the early riding on the
undercover mini ramp. The comp kicked off around 12:00 with Flatland up
first.

Third place went to Brett Weger with smooth consistent runs. Brad Redford
was second, he had funky chickens and a half lash. First place went to
Damian B, he rode in and out of Lardyards and had plenty of links. We also
had Riky Keitch and Tim Lynch demoing the Hoffman Sugar Baby which we later
gave away.

Neil from Sydney took third place with Rolly Pollys, Catapults and a switch
foot hang five. Akio Kotani from Japan had his own unique style with cross
foot Combo's galore and a Lardyard to stick B. First place went to Chris
Pollack from Wollongong his runs were full of techno links like a wheelchair
to funky chicken.

Third to Clint Miller with his usual truckload of scuffing and spinning
tricks including a Darkside attempt. Kim Filke from Adelaide was totally
smooth and controlled with endless wheelchair whips. Simon O'Brien took
First with an extremely technical run including side squeaks on the peddle.

With flatland finished attention shifted to the vert ramp. The Fairfield
vert ramp is BIG and STEEL, around 12ft high with a foot of vert.

Third place went to Ron, he had variations galore including Swing legs
and turndown's. Brendan had a bunch of grinds and airs for second. First
place went to Rob Smith with 3ft airs and a full Barspin attempt.

Mike Daly ( yours truly ) on unfamiliar ground took third with under coping
variations and a manual roll. Leo was second with consistent airs and a
front wheel hang to broken collar bone Ouch! First place went to David,
Danger Man, he had big smooth airs and 4, 540's back to back.

Rob Derbyshire had 6ft airs and Tailwhips for third place. Grant Gettins
dusted off his bike to take second place, he had BIG, SMOOTH airs and old
style variations. First went to Trevor King his runs included 6ft airs
with variations including No Handers, Switch Handers a turndown and a Tailwhip.
Liptricks were also not a problem with grinds and a toothpick.

A short interlude was filled with the raffle of a Hoffman Sugar Baby, thanks
to Inner City Cycles which went to Alex from Sydney.

Last up was the highlight, mini ramp. Fairfield boasts one of the best
mini ramps in the known Universe. 36" wide with a spine, spine box, extensions,
hips, hand rail and various other interesting bits, all under a roof with
lights. What more do you need?

Very close! Daiman B. took third with lip tricks and a bar spin attempt
over the box. Kai Cummins had loads of lip tricks including a half bar
spin disaster and attempted a huge Tailwhip to peddles over the box. First
place went to Lee Martin who had 360's and peg transfers over the spine
plus other lip tricks and assorted grinds.

Kenny Raggett from Wollongong took third, he is The Barspin King. Over
the spine, on the box you name it and the crowd loved it. Danger Man, David
Johnson was second he had 6ft airs, on mini, big 540's and some lip trick
thrown in for good measure. Seaton Spratt a Manly local had techno lip
tricks and a huge icepick on the four foot rail. The crowd went crazy and
Seaton took first place.

The final event for the day, 3 runs with no time limit on the final run.
Be thankful Alex has not turned pro yet! Kenny graduated from expert and
ripped with more Barspins including a double and a truck driver ( 360 barspin
) over the spine, he also threw in a blunt on the rail for good measure.
Third place went to Jason Dack from Melbourne, his runs included Barspin
airs, 360's and Tailwhips over the spine plus the usual assortment of technical
lip tricks.
Mike Daly, comp organiser, took second with smooth runs and lip tricks
including a 720 manual over the spine box and grinds on the wrong side
of the spine. Finally first place went to Clint Miller from Brisbane, his
greatest hits included a rail blunt, big 360's over the spine and every
tooth pick variation known to man including several which ended in Barspins.
His final trick was a nose pick on the rail, which after stalling for several
seconds ended up with him falling 10ft to a snapped pair of bars.

Presentations and pro money were awarded, prizes thrown and Everyone went
to Sizzler except for yours truly who went to the hospital to check out
Leo and his broken collar bone.

Thanks to the following people, Tim, Phil More at Fairfield Leisure Centre,
Hoffman Bikes, Airwalk, InnerCity Cycles, VG components and Rick from Big
B. On a final note a series of comps are in the pipeline for 1997 so stay
tuned and RIDE ON!
